Hi! I'm Karen Childress.

(like the meme but nicer)

What does a Quality Coordinator for a healthcare system know about editing?  Well…

In healthcare, quality = outcomes (such as lower blood pressure) = healthier patients.

In editing, quality = outcomes (such as a well-done edit) = healthier projects.

For the last several years, I have been creating and editing medical literature—mostly physician-facing patient experience literature and patient-facing information—and editing projects for friends on the side. I always wondered how I could use these experiences to create a business.

Enter LinkedIn. I learned about freelance editing from some folks who could truly be considered leaders within the industry.  Fortunately, an apprenticeship was offered with one of those leaders, longtime editor, educator, and EFA board member Jeanette the Writer, and I was chosen to be among the participants.

Now, between my BA in Journalism, my apprenticeship with Jeanette the Writer, my background in patient-facing and physician-facing literature, and a lot of time editing for friends, I am able to offer services for line and copy editing, as well as a few more goodies. Hop over to Services page to check them out or click on the links.

In my free time, I do indigo and tie dyeing. I also actually enjoy creating spreadsheets for friends and business purposes. As a survivor of breast cancer, I co-lead a community group ran by The Stonebrook Project for patients and caregivers of all cancers in all stages of treatment and survivorship. We even wrote a book called “Let’s Talk About It: A Cancer Community Group Gets Real” that includes my story.

I love road trips, seeing my family in Pennsylvania and New Jersey (“down the shore”), and running around in my Jeep, collecting ducks along the way.

Hop on over to my Contact page, and let’s see what we can do together that will bring a healthy glow to your project!
