What does a Quality Coordinator for a healthcare system know about editing? Well…
In healthcare, quality = outcomes (such as lower blood pressure) = healthier patients.
In editing, quality = outcomes (such as a well-done edit) = healthier projects.
For the last several years, I have been creating and editing medical literature—mostly physician-facing patient experience literature and patient-facing information—and editing projects for friends on the side. I always wondered how I could use these experiences to create a business.
Enter LinkedIn. I learned about freelance editing from some folks who could truly be considered leaders within the industry. Fortunately, an apprenticeship was offered with one of those leaders, longtime editor, educator, and EFA board member Jeanette the Writer, and I was chosen to be among the participants.
Now, between my BA in Journalism, my apprenticeship with Jeanette the Writer, my background in patient-facing and physician-facing literature, and a lot of time editing for friends, I am able to offer services for line and copy editing, as well as a few more goodies. In my free time, I do indigo and tie dyeing. I also actually enjoy creating spreadsheets for friends and business purposes. As a survivor of breast cancer, I co-lead a community group ran by The Stonebrook Project for patients and caregivers of all cancers in all stages of treatment and survivorship. We even wrote a book called “Let’s Talk About It: A Cancer Community Group Gets Real” that includes my story.
I love road trips, seeing my family in Pennsylvania and New Jersey (“down the shore”), and running around in my Jeep, collecting ducks along the way.

Why Frogs? And Why Forty-Three of Them?
- Forty-three is my favorite number.
- Frogs have been a part of my life for many, many years. I purchased a baby albino African clawed frog the summer before my freshman year in college, named him Snot, and kept him alive for ten years! He was the first of many. We've had Mrs. Frog (who may have been a Mr.), Slick as Snot, John, and John Paul the 23rd over the years.
- "Frog" is a great euphemism for the "f-bomb." If you see someone playing Words with Friends, Wordscapes, or Two Dots under the moniker "FrogThis," it's probably me. If you see "frogthat," it's my husband. And I'm pretty sure there are at least forty-three grammatical uses for the "f-bomb."
- F.R.O.G. = Fully Rely On God. I can point to more than forty-three times in my life when I've had to fully rely on God.
- In many cultures, frogs represent joy and luck. I want your project to bring you joy. You should be proud of the hard work you've done and feel joy when giving it to others.
